Baptism

Picture
We welcome and congratulate families wishing to pass on the faith to their children through the sacrament of Baptism. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, your child enters the family of God and the faith community of the Church through the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Baptism is the "gateway" to the other sacraments, and to all the spiritual benefits offered through the Church

ARRANGING A BAPTISM AT ST. PADRE PIO

1.  Schedule The Baptism.
Arrangements for Baptisms must be made in advance. Baptisms are usually celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 1:30 p.m. Please download the Baptism registration form below to your computer before completing. The form may then be submitted electronically or printed and returned to the Church of St. Hilary or the Parish Office.

2. Submit the Baptism Sponsor Forms
As you begin to prepare for your child’s Baptism, one of your first decisions will be the selection of Sponsors (Godparents). Sponsors play a very important role in your child’s spiritual life and should serve as role models of the faith. They should support you in your work to teach your child our Catholic faith. Please download the Sponsor registration form below to your computer before completing. The form may then be submitted electronically or printed and returned to the Church of St. Hilary or the Parish Office.

3.  Enroll in our Baptismal Preparation Class.
In preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism, parents and godparents are required to participate in Baptismal Preparation Class which will explore the meaning of the sacrament and familiarize you with how Baptism is celebrated today. These are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Rectory. Please contact the Parish Office at (773 561-3474 to enroll.

BAPTISM FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN
Children at least 7 years of age who have not yet been baptized, are prepared for the sacraments in the course of their preparation in the spiritual formation offered by our school or Religious Education program. For more information, please visit our Religious Education page or contact our Religious Education Coordinator Yanett Banda at mbanda@stpadrepioparsih.org or (773) 569-3505.

BAPTISM FOR ADULTS
Adults interested in joining the Church, including those who wish to be baptized, as well as those who wish to complete their initiation through the reception of Confirmation and Eucharist, participate in a year-long program known as the Right of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This process includes study, together with periodic celebrations and liturgies in church, and culminates in the celebration of the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil. For more information on RCIA, please visit our RCIA page.
