Church of St. Hilary Stained-Glass Windows
The work on the repair and restoration of our fantastic stained-glass windows has begun! The façade triptych has been competed and the next phase will start in spring. This collection of windows was designed and installed by the F.X. Zettler Company in Munich, Germany, and were completed when the building opened in 1956. It is a major installation for this company whose other installations may be found all over the world. The centerpiece is the monumental triptych gracing the west façade. One interesting, if not sad, note is that the transom windows over the doors of the California vestibule are not the originals. As the story goes, thieves, dressed as workmen, removed them and stole them decades ago. Their whereabouts are unknown. The windows that we see are somewhat lesser quality copies of the originals that were done from photographs. The PDF included here is a comprehensive list of the 53 windows ranging from stock emblem windows to the fantastic depictions of the Rosary.
